You could keep your passport, money and phone close to you in the shoulder bag and was easily accessible to get anything out. The Backpack was brilliant on the plane and you could keep lots in it with different pockets inside. I also purchased the cubes which I wish I had bought years ago and it was great to be able to put jumpers, trousers etc in different pods.
