Up next in our interview series, we speak to menswear enthusiast Bola Odusina about exploring Japan, returning to Barcelona and the anticipation of the airport.
What does travel mean to you?
Travel for me is about several things—gaining fulfilling experiences, making new friends, experiencing new cultures and visiting beautiful destinations. I think travelling provides the opportunity to unwind, develop a new viewpoint and is important for self-development. There's the saying, travelling is one of the few things that you can buy that makes you richer.
What are you most looking forward to about travelling in 2021?
I am most looking forward to getting away, exploring again, reconnecting with friends and making new memories.
Describe a moment, that you only experience when travelling, that you can’t wait to experience again?
I get most excited about the build-up prior to the flight, the trip to the airport and the wait just before the flight. I'm always in a great mood before travelling. I usually cut it close time-wise, but I typically leave enough time get a drink at a bar, grab some food or browse the shops before boarding my flight.
Which European destination is first on your list and why?
The last few years I have visited Barcelona at least once a year, it's one of my favourite city breaks. I love the blend of cultural activities—Gaudi's work, the bunkers and Gothic quarter to start... and the chance to relax by the beach—it's the best of both worlds. There are good restaurants, weather and nightlife, I can't wait to go back!
Which long haul destination are you longing to explore and why?
I am very keen to explore Japan, it’s been on my list of countries to visit for a while. One of the most compelling reasons for me is the shopping, as Japanese brands are known for their high standards and attention to detail. Brands such as Visvim, Porter Yoshida and Ring Jacket are leaders in their specialisms.
I am also a big fan of Japanese cuisine, sushi paired with Japanese whisky is fantastic! Yamazaki 12 year is my favourite and I'm huge fan of most of the Suntory whiskies. There's also the culture and amazing sights, of course.
Name a place that you love so much, you’d happily return to time and time again.
I love New York, I really enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life. I love how much people socialise out there, even on Mondays restaurants are busy. I’m a big basketball fan so I try and watch a game whenever I’m there.
